Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re interested in book coaching, it’s best to apply as soon as you’re ready—maybe even a bit before you’re ready. I work with anywhere from 5-7 coaching clients at one time (all 1:1), and slots tend to open up 1-2 times a quarter.
If you’d like to hire me to copyedit or proofread your manuscript, it’s best to inquire 4+ weeks before your deadline. There’s a 50% surcharge for rush projects (less than a 3-week turnaround), even if I have an opening in my schedule.
-
Yes! For editing projects, a 50% deposit is due when the project is booked, but we can split the remaining 50% however you’d like. Just note that the project must be paid in full before I release your final files.
Coaching payments may be split into 2 equal payments, but the full amount is due each month.

Totally understandable! I’d recommend starting with a Clarity Call. After filling out a detailed questionnaire about your project, we’ll get on a 60-minute video (or phone if that’s your preference) call to help you work through whatever issues you’re having. This will help get you back to making progress on your work in progress, give you a taste of what coaching with me is like, and help you decide if you want to commit to more.

I love to coach personal development, self-help, spirituality, business, memoir-ish, and contemporary fiction books.
For editing, I’m open to all nonfiction and adult & YA fiction. I don’t work with children’s books or poetry.

Nope! We can do regular old phone calls for every session if you want, or an audio-only web conference call. (I actually don’t use Zoom; I use Whereby, a browser-based alternative.)

While I primarily work with Brown, Black, and otherwise melanated folks, I am totally open to working with allies, too! What does an ally look like? You are actively anti-racist, you agree that white privilege exists, you understand that racism is systemic, you agree that Black Lives Matter, and you vehemently agree when I say "Publishing is white AF" (just to name a few things).
Hey! I’m Sabrina – Book Coach, Editor, and Founder of Unpolished Words, a writer-first sanctuary for BIPOC authors where you can feel safe and supported to write the book you need to write.
With me as your all-in-one book coach, editor, cheerleader, challenger, and accountability partner, you’ll have the support you need to raise your voice and hone your writing skills so people can stop saying “Someone should write a book about that” when you tell them your idea, and start saying “Omg I can’t wait to read your book!”
